Khurshid Banu (active c. 1600)
Khurshid Banu was a talented artist during the rule of Emperor Jahangir. She was immensely renowned for her outstanding portraits of the royal family, as well as her demonstrations of birds and animals. Her paintings were full of bright colours and detail, capturing the beauty of both the Mughal court and the natural world. Khurshid’s work was important not just because of her skill but because, as a woman, she was part of a small but important group of female artists at the time. Her art helped shape the Mughal style and left a lasting mark on the court’s artistic legacy.
